      A chapter in Louis B. Wright Middle-Class Culture in Elizabethan England presents the Elizabethan commoner's reaction to ephemeral books on astrology. These and a few other studies show that the pseudo-sciences of alchemy, chiromancy, physiognomy, metoposcopy, and astrology--however much they may now be considered aberrations of the human mind. Two small closed tears to top back. Spine has faded; titles still legible. This book of short studies was published to commemorate the fourth centenary of the accession of Elizabeth I. The first is about November 17th, her accession day. Other essays show how the past throws light upon the present, as well as the present upon the past.
